Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine was born and raised from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam her mother, who is Jazmine's mom, is an ex-backing singer of Philadelphia International Records. In the year she turned 5 young, her father got an appointment as the curator at City's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family relocated to the mansion's historical site. As a 2005 Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts student and a top student in vocal performance. Sullivan was first singing in the kids' chorus as a contralto, before joining the adult choir a few years further on. Sullivan did not get exposed to the world of secular music for the first time. "I started singing as a soloist in churches, and one of my friends wanted me to sign up to record a gospel song when I was eleven. but I wasn't prepared for that," she says. "Then when McDonald's was hosting a contest for youngsters in the major cities, I got a chance to perform 'Accept What God Does' on Showtime on the Apollo and the audience were very supportive". She was just 13 when she sang along with Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday celebration. Sullivan signed her first contract with Jive Records when she was 15. She recorded an entire album. However, the album was never released. Sullivan was eventually dropped by the label. Missy Elliott was the producer for some tracks that were on the album she released as her first. One of them was "Backstabbers" the buzz song produced by Timbaland which was composed by Elliott.
